Vice President’s Message

August 2024

By Vice President Kim Villalva

With the soon-to-wrap-up Olympic Summer Games in Paris, we will see those familiar yellow school buses once again make their rounds in our neighborhoods, signaling the end of summer break for students. The 2024-2025 school year is about to begin kicking off a new season of learning for students.

Learning is something that everyone can benefit from at any age, in any profession, and at any stage of their life.

Learning helps open our eyes to the world around us. Whether we are exploring something new or diving into a familiar topic, learning gives us the chance to expand our thinking and deepen our understanding of the world.

Learning helps connect us with others. Looking for a fellow book lover? Or maybe someone who enjoys history? Or perhaps you are just looking for folks who enjoy good conversation and a delicious meal. When you attend a workshop or program at the DWC, you are connecting with others who have similar interests as you, as well as those who have hobbies or passions new to you.

Learning helps advance us in our professions. Whether we are volunteering or working full-time, learning helps us develop new skills that we can apply to our jobs.

Learning keep us sharp as we age by helping to improve our cognitive functions, such as memory recall.

The benefits of learning are many and we are excited to offer you so many opportunities to learn. Why not exercise those mental muscles this fall? Start the new school year off by signing up for an upcoming program at the Club. While we can’t offer you a ride in a bright yellow school bus to our historic house in Dayton, we can guarantee you a wonderful opportunity to meet friends and to learn something new!
