Step back in time and relive Dayton’s bustling downtown shopping scene. From the elegance of Traxler’s and Donenfeld’s to the familiar favorites of Elder & Johnston, Rike’s, and the original Arcade, downtown was once the place to be.

Local historian and collector Andrew Hershner will share highlights from his private collection of photos and memorabilia, bringing this golden era to life with stories and memories that capture the spirit of Dayton’s retail past.

About the Speaker: Andrew Hershner
Andrew Hershner is a widely respected "Daytonologist" and a walking encyclopedia of local history. Known for his deep passion and encyclopedic knowledge of the Miami Valley’s past, Andrew is a sought-after speaker who delivers insightful and entertaining presentations on every chapter of Dayton’s story—from its industrial boom years to its cultural and civic transformations.

As co-administrator with Robert Roberson of the popular “History of the Daytonians” Facebook group, Andrew fosters a thriving community of history enthusiasts and shares regular content that brings Dayton’s legacy into the spotlight. His extensive personal archive and vivid storytelling make his talks an unforgettable experience for history buffs and curious minds alike.
