Step into the world of America’s founding era through this engaging first-person living history presentation.
Presented through the reflections of Martha Washington, The Unlikely Revolutionaries – George and Martha Washington explores the personal side of the American Revolution and the sacrifices made by one of history’s most influential couples. Audiences will gain insight into Martha’s family life, her marriage to George Washington, and the hardships they endured during the Revolutionary War and the years surrounding America’s fight for independence.
Known for her unwavering devotion to her husband and family, Martha frequently joined General Washington at winter encampments, offering companionship and support during some of the nation’s most uncertain times. Through stories of love, loss, endurance, and service, this presentation highlights the partnership that helped guide a new nation toward independence from Great Britain.
The program is presented by living history performer Joyce Lovins Browning, an Ohio native who has portrayed historical women for more than 20 years. Browning describes herself as a “Histalorian,” bringing historical figures to life through storytelling and performance. She retired from Great Parks of Hamilton County as Naturalist Coordinator in 2018 and also served as a Tour Coordinator for Amazing Travel Treasures.
Part of the Dayton Woman’s Club Celebrate250! This special evening, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, offers guests the opportunity to experience history in the beautiful setting of our historic Victorian mansion.
We are open to the general public. Our venue is fully accessible with a ramp entrance.
