Miss Manners Program: Fall 2022
On Saturday, October 15, 2022, approximately 65 Girl Scouts and their adult leaders and chaperones attended the Dayton Woman’s Club’s Fall Miss Manner’s Program.
Girls began the day with a warm welcome to the house and a connection between what they would be learning that day and understanding the legacy of the women who founded the Dayton Woman’s Club. Each topic in the Miss Manners training program helped to prepare them for meeting new people, having conversations, and of course, proper manners for a dining experience. The girls learned about cultural differences in etiquette. They learned about the importance of introductions and practiced making introductions, including making eye contact, smiling, and practicing how they would greet one another. We ended our morning’s training with a fun break of learning how to fold cloth napkins! Thanks to Traci from Brock-Masterson Catering, the girls were taught several different folds, and then they got to practice at their tables before lunch.
Finally, the girls learned the importance of saying thank you. They practiced writing thank you notes for the very event they were attending! Each thank-you was beautifully written, and even Traci, our caterer, was touched to receive some personal notes! As we concluded the day, we pulled up a final video segment to summarize the importance of learning manners and etiquette. The girls understood how their confidence would grow, so as they continued to meet new people throughout their lives, and to discuss ideas—just like the early women of the DWC did all those years ago—they, too, could make the world a better place someday.
